Understanding Economic Statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau: The Annual Integrated Economic Survey and Economic Census

Toolbox Tuesday
November 4, 2025 - 1:00PM - 2:30PM

Join SCAG for a special Toolbox Tuesday session with staff from the U.S. Census Bureau on economic data useful for local planning. The Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES) and the Economic Census are the two largest economic survey programs of the U.S. Census Bureau. The new AIES replaces and integrates seven separate annual surveys with one streamlined program, providing national, regional, divisional, as well as state-level annual estimates for some sectors on revenues, expenses, payroll, and employment. The Economic Census is the official five-year measure of businesses in the United States, which provides comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels. Both programs feature modernized data access, new visualization tools, and accelerated releases, reflecting the Census Bureau’s effort to provide timely, accessible, and relevant economic statistics.

This session is part of SCAG’s ongoing economic data resources, complementing our annual regional economic analysis report and quarterly economic roundtable reports. U.S. Census Bureau staff Kari Klinedist, Senior Program Advisor in the Office of the Economic Census Assistant Survey Director, and Tristan St. Onge, Senior Manager in Economy-Wide Statistic Division, will present.
